United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Ft. Thompson man charged with Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury was sentenced on August 15, 2012, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Charles His Law, age 29, was sentenced to 96 months in custody, 3 years of supervised release, $6,145.69 in restitution, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

His Law was indicted for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Tampering With a Victim, Retaliating Against a Victim, and Interstate Domestic Violence by a federal grand jury on December 14, 2011. He pled guilty to Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury on April 17, 2012.

The conviction stems from an incident that occurred during the early morning hours of November 3, 2011. The defendant became upset with the victim and began to assault her. The force of the blows knocked the victim to the ground, and she suffered serious bodily injury as a result of the assault.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Crow Creek Agency. Assistant United States Attorney Meghan N. Dilges prosecuted the case.

His Law was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal to begin serving his sentence.
